Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance
The Hawaiian Railway Society has worked hard to comply with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations. For example, years ago the Society installed ramps into the gift shop and onto the train to assist passengers with wheelchairs and walkers. Also, we configured the interior of one passenger car to accommodate passengers with wheelchairs.
Recently the Society received the generous donation of a wheelchair lift from the Ko Olina Community Association. Now passengers with wheelchairs and walkers can board the train using the lift.
Our next goal is to make the entrance to the gift shop ADA compliant. We need to reconfigure the ramp with the required 12:1 slope. We're hoping to get a donation to purchase the materials for this project. If you can donate either money or materials, please call us at 808-681-5461 or see our Support Us page for more information.
Remember that we always have people on hand to assist passengers. We also recommend that if possible you should phone Hawaiian Railway in advance so we can be on hand to assist you as soon as you arrive.
We want everyone to have an enjoyable train ride!
