The History of the Hawaiian Railway Society
Preserving Hawaii’s Railroad Legacy
The Hawaiian Railway Society is dedicated to preserving Hawaii’s rich railroad history. As a non-profit educational organization, the Society has successfully placed the last remaining stretch of track on Oahu (from Ewa to Nanakuli) on both the State and National Registers of Historic Sites. To date, 6.5 miles of track have been restored, along with three vintage diesel locomotives and several steam engines. The iconic Dillingham Parlor Car, used by Hawaiian royalty, has also been restored and is available for rides and charters. Offering the only active historic railway experience on Oahu, the Hawaiian Railway Society provides visitors and locals alike with a unique opportunity to explore the island’s railroading past. The Society hosts regular rides on weekends, charters during the week, and special events to keep Hawaii’s railroad heritage alive for future generations.
